Thomas Füri performs with the ARIA Quartet which he formed in 1994, he plays as a soloist and teaches at the Hochschule für Musik Basle.
Born in Bern 1947 in a musicians family, he studied with his father Erich Füri, with Max Rostal at the Hochschule für Musik Berne and Ivan Galamian at the Juilliard School in New York City.
After 7 years of concertmaster activities in Koblenz (Germany), Lausanne and Basle (1973-80) Thomas Füri was during 14 years leader of the well known CAMERATA BERN (1979-93), touring very often the U.S., Canada, Australia and many European countries, playing in concerthalls like Carnegie Hall, Berliner Philharmonie, Musikverein in Vienna, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Sidney Opera House and others.
Between 1980 and 1991 he was teaching at the Hochschulen für Musik in Winterthur and Zurich. From 1985 to 2000 he was first violinist of the quintet I SALONISTI (the band in the film «Titanic»!).
He recorded a great number of LP's and CD's on labels like DGG, EMI, Decca (London), Denon, Erato, Novalis and others.
1993 Thomas Füri received the Music Award of the canton of Berne, 2005 the «Golden Bow» of the Meiringen Festival.
He plays a violin by G.B.Guadagnini / Parma 1761. He lives with his family in Ballmoos near Bern / Switzerland.
