Ettore Causa, Viola

Was a student at the International Menuhin Music Academy (Switzerland) and at the Manhattan School of Music, New York. He was taught by Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Alberto Lysy, Michael Tree and Johannes Eskar, who were to become important inspirational guides in his music development He was awarded both the «P. Schidlof Prize» and the «J. Barbirolli Prize» for «the most beautiful sound» at the prestigious Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition in England. He has since made soloist and recital appearances with leading musicians in many of the major venues around the world.

Particularly devoted to chamber music, he is also regularly invited to prestigious chamber music festivals such as Prussia Cove (England), Savonlinna (Finland), Lanaudiere (Canada) and the Festival Lysy (Buenos Aires), where he plays with internationally renowned colleagues such as Natalie Clein, Alberto Lysy, Patrick Demenga, Thomas Füri, Jeremy Menuhin, Ulf Wallin and others.

Since 2001 Ettore Causa is professor of both viola and chamber music at the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland and he is regularly invited to give master classes not only in Switzerland, but also in Spain, Portugal, Italy and Argentina.

Ettore Causa plays on a viola made for him by Frédéric Chaudière in 2003.

Released in 2006 and featuring transcriptions of romantic music for viola and piano, his first recording for Claves was an overwhelming success and was crowned with the «5 Diapasons». A new recording with the same label featuring the two Brahms sonatas for viola and piano was released in May 2008.
